CTA – BLUE LINE
The Portage is a fifteen minute walk west of the Irving Park Blue Line stop (remember to get off on the Irving Park, rather than the Pulaski side). If you don’t feel like walking, get on the 80 bus going west (the bus stop is right under the train platform) and get off at Cicero. The theater is half a block away from the bus stop.
CTA – BUSES
The Milwaukee (56), Irving Park (80), and Cicero (54) buses all have stops at the six-way intersection of Irving Park, Cicero, and Milwaukee – just half a block from the theater.
METRA
If you’re coming from the suburbs or downtown, you can also take the Metra to the Portage (holy cow!). The Union Pacific Northwest Line (aka the Harvard line) will drop you off at the Irving Park stop, and you can walk or take the #80 bus up half a mile west to the six corners intersection and the Portage. OR you can take the Metra Milwaukee District North Line (aka the Fox Lake line) to Grayland, and walk or take the #56 bus half a mile northwest to the Portage. It’s that simple!
DRIVING
If you’re driving, take the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94).
If coming from the north, exit 44A (Keeler / Irving Park), immediately turn right on Keeler and right again on Irving Park. Take Irving Park west 1 mile to the Six Corners intersection.
If coming from the south, exit 44B (Pulaski / Irving Park), proceed straight past Pulaski and then left on Irving Park. Take Irving Park west 1 mile to the Six Corners intersection.
At Six Corners, turn right (northwest) on Milwaukee Ave and proceed 1/2 block to the Portage Theater and try your luck with street parking. Or park in the Sears lot for free!
